Many news from the Polycom world, presented on 28 June in a profitable press conference in Milan: from the development of Cloud services to the new releases of Trio and Pano, to the integration of Polycom solutions with new brands in “ecosystem logic”.
“Ecosystem” and “Cloud” were the key words in the speeches by Claudio Mignone, Country Manager of Polycom Italy, and Andrea Recupero, Polycom SE Voice South EMEA & BeNeLux. The meeting was organized by Polycom to present the latest technological developments in the field of collaboration and videoconferencing.
Let’s start from Cloud: Polycom has announced a new cloud-based strategy, with Polycom Cloud Services and Polycom Device Management Services (PDMS) solutions, in order to offer new features to companies for the management and evaluation of telephone devices. The new Cloud services are addressed on one side to Enterprise customers (PDMS-E) and on the other to service providers (PDMS-SP). PDMS for Enterprise enables IT professionals to easily manage all Polycom audio devices, including desk phones and conference rooms, from a single cloud portal. For service providers, however, who have different needs from those of corporate customers, Polycom offers a version of PDMS designed to integrate the management and analysis of Polycom audio devices directly into the customer portal. Service providers can therefore shorten uptime by anticipating customers’ critical issues, collecting sensitive analytical data and customizing devices. Polycom, in the third quarter of 2018, will also release an API capable of transforming PDMS into a platform even more focused on the future, especially in anticipation of the development of endpoints such as Polycom Trio, destined to become increasingly “smart”.
The second key word of the day is “Ecosystem”: Polycom reiterates, above all in the words of Claudio Mignone, its intent to integrate more and more technology, which today must cohabit in a large group of devices of different brands. The Polycom proposal for 2018 therefore consists of updates aimed at creating ever larger ecosystems of collaboration, able to connect in a simple way the single “technological islands” in a BYOD logic. The new release 5.7.1 of Polycom UC Software, as well as the new versions of Trio and Pano, implement and improve the audio conference experience, enlarging it to video and sharing documents.
Trio offers two models: Trio 8500 and Trio 8800, with the enhanced partnership with Zoom to support Zoom rooms. The new Polycom Zoom Rooms solution is available in three versions, for all business needs, from huddle rooms to large meeting rooms. Trio, with native UI Zoom controller, is the heart of the system. For the Huddle Room, the solution includes the Trio 8500, the new Eagle Eye Mini camera and Dell OptiPlex.
For the mid-sized Conference Rooms, there is the Trio 8500 Plus Zoom Room proposal, with an EagleEye IV MPTZ (for HD video) and Dell OptiPlex cameras. For large conference rooms, the “team” consists of the Trio 8800 along with the EagleEye IV MPTZ HD and Dell OptiPlex cameras. The Trio 8800 model has speakers designed to offer a higher sound quality. Without the need for additional remote controls, the Polycom Trio touch screen becomes the only interface needed to handle calls, camera zoom and other connected devices.
Finally, Polycom Pano in release 1.2, available from July 2018, will feature a guest access to allow business consultants, customers, partners or providers to connect and share content through a secure WI-FI network.
