As predicted by a famous painting by Umberto Boccioni, The city that rises, Milan is constantly changing its face. The Vetra Building has changed a corner of the city, a process to which Paso has also contributed with its certified solutions for emergency evacuation.
If you ask for Piazza Vetra in Milan, you will not find anyone who does not know how to point it out to you: it is a very central place, right next to the basilica of San Lorenzo, but above all – simply – for the citizen of Milan it is too famous, too important, rooted in the fabric of the city and, above all, in its history, since the most remote times. A little bit of everything has happened in Piazza Vetra: from tax collection to executions, from the famous robberies (who doesn’t remember Vallanzasca and the infamous gang?) to today’s glories, with a completely redeveloped piazza, and soon, it will also have its own stop on the new metro line.
Last act: Vetra Building
The Vetra Building project in Via della Chiusa 2, inaugurated in November 2021, has redeveloped the former tax office, converting it into a multifunctional space, and thus becoming the last act of the incessant process of change that concerns not only this Milan area, but the whole city. Space therefore for innovation, with the creation of a new icon: a building that combines design, technology, lightness, and sustainability, to redesign the urban context. The glass facades of the Vetra Building are the protagonists, from here it will be possible to have an extraordinary view of the Parco delle Basiliche, one of the most important and central in Milan. The building has been entirely redeveloped to be now certified “grade A” and to obtain Gold LEED level in accordance with the degrees and levels of sustainability architectural concept of buildings nowadays. On the ground floor, the creation of an innovative shopping & life experience allows you to better enjoy the rhythms of the city and the surrounding spaces.
The EVAC system: all the modernity of Paso
Just as Milan embodies a traditional heart and a highly innovative spirit, in the same way, Paso is a brand with a great tradition but always ready to renew itself (and to renew the environments in which it is used). The sound system involves two separate buildings, A and B, of approx. 25,000 square metres with dedicated entrances, for a total of five floors of offices and two underground levels, one of which is dedicated to parking (80 parking spaces and 22 motorcycle spaces) and one to technical rooms. Each building has its own reception.
To manage emergency calls and send pre-recorded evacuation /alert messages, and standard service calls towards the different zones, Paso emergency microphone TSB8500-V station touch-screen has been set in one of the buildings. The main system for both buildings; based on Controller CR8506-V architecture is composed by two racks with two CR8506-V controllers, two RT8506-V routers, thirteen PMD250-V amplifiers (250 W), two PMD500-V amplifiers (500 W) and two AW5648 amplifiers (480 W), all components are EN54-16 certified. The rack cabinets are interconnected with each other with fire-resistant shielded CAT5 cables, and through double connection to ensure – as per the regulations -redundancy and functionality even when one of the two systems is interrupted.
For good audio coverage and in order to ensure messages diffusion, in general, and emergency ones in particular with high levels of intelligibility; the installation has foreseen the necessary quantity, subject to a dedicated Evac acoustic simulation, of the ceiling speakers C573/6-EN (6 W) and of the wall mount speakers C36/6-EN (6 W), EN54-24 certified characterized with a very discreet shape and able to fit gracefully and highly with these buildings architectures concept. This corner of Milan has taken a new and innovative image due to this new building. Today if you ask to a Milan citizen to point you to Piazza Vetra, he will point you directly to the Vetra Building.
