A more accessible artistic heritage, thanks to technology: the “Musei di Tutti” museum network in Florence has launched a new digital initiative to enrich the visitor experience.
A very traditional artistic heritage, even in the ways it can be visited, risks being inaccessible to those with physical or sensory impairments. However, thanks to technology, not only is it possible to overcome some of these obstacles, but also to imagine new ways of visiting, where people with disabilities and without can share experiences.
The “Memorie Sonore OnSite” project is based on an app integrated with a kit that includes an audio device and bone conduction headphones, allowing visitors to experience museums through sound. This technology transforms the visit into a different sensory experience, granting access to a new dimension of the artworks, architecture, and museum spaces.
In a further effort to promote accessibility, the “Musei di Tutti” network, in collaboration with the Italian Union of the Blind and Visually Impaired in Florence, has organized a series of free guided tours. These events aim to promote an inclusive artistic and cultural experience, offering both sighted and visually impaired individuals the opportunity to share engaging and evocative experiences. During these visits, participants will explore unique soundscapes, discovering materials, sounds, and perceptions that might normally go unnoticed through the visual channel alone.
