The second phase of our project on inclusive design takes us today to Milan, where we are hosted by the Ordine degliArchitetti in front of an audience of designers and architects, in collaboration with Audiosales. Architect Del Zanna, an expert in Universal Design, explains how design tailored for disabilities actually provides a great service to all users, enabling them to access services, information, and environments by overturning the hierarchy of needs. This shift leads to the concept of design for an expanded user base, acknowledging complexities and valuing diversity in a dynamic process.
Technologies can play a significant role in this journey, as they can alleviate and, in some cases, resolve challenges related to diversity and neurodivergence by automating, simplifying, and expanding interaction possibilities with a user interface. In the room, for example, we have the hearing loop system technology by Contacta, brought by Audiosales, available for anyone who wants to experience a system designed for hearing impairments, which affect one-sixth of the population and one-third of those over 65. From Theory to practice.
