The d&b audiotechnik brand is among the most innovative in terms of technology, committed to the search for a constant improvement in the diffusion and processing of audio signals. The new A Series speakers combine different technologies for a completely new result
The idea: to combine the simplicity of point source clusters with the distribution (both level and frequency) typical of line arrays, offering a characteristic d&b sound quality in an “augmented” format, with greater flexibility in both physical configuration and control acoustic. The new d&b A series brings together the best technological elements of existing d&b systems to deeply renew the very concept of loudspeaker, going beyond the limits of a common audio system while maintaining the “classic” aspects of d&b products: directivity and unity of the system. In short, with the A series we are in the presence of a “fusion” of different technologies, for a result that enhances the individual characteristics in a harmonious unity.
But let’s see the main characteristics of these new speakers, starting with the ability to precisely adapt to the shape of the environments in which they operate, using variable opening angles. The wide distribution is obtained both horizontally and vertically, even using a very small number of speakers, while the coherent dispersion of high frequencies is maintained through a sophisticated waveguide design. In fact, in line with d&b’s philosophy, the development of the A series took place according to an approach devoted to acoustic improvement, with particular attention to controlling the directivity of the mid-range.
This function uses fewer amplifier channels than Array Processing, keeping the directivity of the symmetrical midrange at every possible angle of the splay. Simply select each speaker within an augmented array as “In” for internal cabinets and “Out” for external cabinets – with a simple click, the midrange directivity control function ensures that critical vocal range is crystal clear and perfectly reproduced. Speed and ease of installation and use are therefore part of the features of this series, together with extreme adaptability. Variable opening angles between adjacent units can be set in a range of 20° to 40° and in 5° increments. Whether the coverage is narrow or wide, the arrays will therefore be horizontal or vertical, and the sound will be directed only where you want it to go, and no further.
The available two-way models feature two 10” LF drivers and a 1.4” compression driver with 3” voice coil, providing a maximum SPL of 139dB. AL60 is a medium format augmented array speaker, with 60° x 30° dispersion, also available in a specific version for installation, called ALi60. AL90 instead offers a dispersion of 90° x 30°, with the same maximum SPL, and in turn has its own installation version, ALi90. The weight of all models varies very little, from 22 to 23 kg.
