From 20 to 23 May 2017, Florence will host the new edition of Showlight, important event for lighting professionals
Showlight is, for professional theatrical lighting world, what the Olympics are for sports, or the World Cup for football: a key event organized every four years in a different country. For the 2017 the organizers have chosen Italy, and the italian company Clay Paky will be the main sponsor of the event. The heart of Showlight are the conferences, a series of presentations by distinguished speakers, centered on the show-lighting in theater, in the big events, television and cinema, up to the spectacular installations in architecture or in theme parks. The speakers are Lighting Designers, Directors of Photography, sometimes Architects or otherwise experienced in dramatic lighting that have produced performances or large international projects over the past four years, and they will tell their experience, technical solutions devised, or new technologies available. To complete the event, an exhibition with about 40 companies in the industry, a number of social activities and a program of guided tours to the most interesting places in the city of Florence. The conference venue will be the prestigious auditorium of the Palazzo dei Congressi.
Previous editions of the event were attended, mainly, Americans and British lighting designers and DOP. This year, however, the event takes place in Florence, and it will be a unique opportunity for professional development for Italian lighting designers. The event subscription is paid, but there are formulas to suit all needs: participation in all conferences, participation in a single day, and special rates for students. Pio Nahum, Clay Paky’s CEO, said: “Our company has always supported Showlight in all past editions because we consider it an important event for the development of the culture of light in the entertainment world. An initiative such as this is an opportunity for professional development for those working in the industry but it’s also an event that promotes and qualifies the profession. In addition, for companies such as Clay Paky, ADB and Osram, a more widespread professionalism in our industry means the opportunity to appreciate the quality and added value of the superior performance of our products.”
