Extreme Networks, in collaboration with NetNordic, has built one of the largest cloud-managed network infrastructures in Borås, Sweden, transforming the municipality into a true smart city.
One of the largest cloud-managed network installations in Sweden enables secure and reliable public Wi-Fi as well as simplified network management. At the heart of this innovative system is the Swedish city of Borås, which is becoming a Smart City, characterized by advanced connectivity and public Wi-Fi for citizens, schools, public services and local administration, with automated and simplified network management by part of the IT team.
Not only that: during the pandemic, the municipality of Borås launched services such as medical bracelets connected via Wi-Fi, which allow real-time monitoring of the conditions of people, especially the elderly and individuals at risk.
The entire infrastructure is managed through the ExtremeCloud IQ platform, which reduces complexity and maintenance costs, streamlines operations and provides total visibility on the use of the network and its performance, thus allowing to optimize all connectivity services.
But let’s see in detail the two main advantages of this “technological revolution” for the city of Borås. First of all, Wi-Fi connectivity: Borås has installed approximately 3.500 ExtremeWireless Wi-Fi 6 access points to offer reliable coverage, better network capacity and higher data rates. In this way, all users enjoy an excellent connectivity experience in sectors such as health and education, and this helps to support the rapid economic growth of the region. Other important strengths, network management and data analysis: ExtremeCloud IQ offers the IT staff of the city a complete supervision of the network infrastructure, and allows the visualization and management of all operations through a single cloud-based dashboard control. In this way, a team of only three people can manage without problems the approximately 3.500 access points, to which thousands of devices and users are connected. In addition, ExtremeAnalytics allows staff to optimize the infrastructure based on information on how it is used.
Andrzej Kardas, Chief Technology Officer of the municipality of Borås, commented on the infrastructure built by Extreme Networks: “Extreme Networks has been a key partner for the construction of a smart city that meets the current and future needs of its citizens. By leveraging Extreme solutions, we have created a cloud-managed network infrastructure that helps us manage new initiatives thanks to the performance and robustness of services, with a minimum of overhead, management and maintenance on our part.”
On the way to the future, Borås has gone one step further!
