Extreme Networks announces the realization of the renewal and evolution project of the geographical network of ASST Mantova, based on the Extreme Fabric Connect solution, to achieve greater security and simplicity of management, and ensure continuity in the delivery of social-health services. ASST Mantova is a multi-department social-health agency with 43 locations throughout the province of Mantova, providing cutting-edge technology and professionalism in the diagnostic and therapeutic fields, with a keen eye on the humanization of care and places of care.
ASST Mantua needed to achieve higher bandwidth and low latency to quickly move large amounts of data, ultra-high resolution images, and backup files, and migrate VMs between different locations, adopting a more flexible and simple technology, based on a single routing protocol, while ensuring high reliability and availability of multiple paths to keep services active in peripheral locations, even in the face of equipment or optical network failures.
In addition, it needed to have the flexibility to easily deploy Disaster Recovery or Business Continuity services, and the security and visibility over network traffic essential to be able to cope in real time with cyber attacks on public entities, which are becoming increasingly frequent. All this while ensuring continuity of service throughout the migration path with coexistence between the old and new network infrastructure.
Paolo Garbossa, Director of Corporate Information Systems ASST of Mantua, commented, “The Extreme Networks solution is extremely reliable: we have run a series of tests simulating one or more outages in the network, and reconvergence times have always been under a second, and above all, there have never been any impacts on users and services provided. Thanks to the close collaboration between TIM, ATOS, and NAeS Consulting, we were able to finalize on time a network project that included the availability of fiber optics, the related network equipment, and the professionals capable of managing the migration and configuring the new infrastructure.”
The Extreme Networks solution, based on Extreme Fabric Connect technology managed through the ExtremeCloud IQ Site Engine software, offers both visibility into peripheral traffic between hospitals and other sites, the ability to manage the entire infrastructure from a single control panel, and centralized definition and application of configurations and policies for the entire geographic network. This granular control over the use of network services and applications makes it possible to prevent inappropriate use of them, manage new devices, including IoT devices, more securely, and more easily create and maintain access lists for blocking traffic and maintaining high-security standards.
At the hardware level, the ExtremeSwitching 4900XE Virtual Services and 5520 Universal Edge/Aggregation platforms were used. The first – the 4900 Series – is the next generation of switches designed for aggregation deployments, and enables services for the extension of end-to-end fabric services from the core to the periphery of the network. The second – the 5520 Series, with universal hardware – offers a choice of Extreme switch operating systems, provides secure end-to-end network segmentation, and offers advanced policy management capabilities.
