At Canon Vision, the event that took place in Milan a few weeks ago, it was possible to see and experience firsthand all the potential and strengths of Canon’s audio and video technology, with a wide range of imaging solutions for various applications.
From the new PTZ cameras (indoor and outdoor) to the products of the renowned Cinema EOS family for film and professional production, from the innovative Canon EOS R system to the range of photographic models, Canon Vision was a great opportunity to get in touch with multi-camera systems and virtual production environments based on Canon products, integrated to create solutions for different fields, from Corporate to Educational, to live events.
At the center of attention, in particular, were the PTZ cameras, protagonists of three different specially arranged scenarios: a virtual studio designed for companies as well as for broadcasting, a multi-camera studio with products from different sectors (PTZ and ProAV), and finally, an Educational scenario where the Autotracking function took the spotlight.
In the virtual studio, the classic green background is replaced in real time with the user’s chosen studio configuration, and the system is enhanced by Canon’s automatic tracking and autofocus technology.
The second scenario is also very fascinating, featuring the “collaboration” of Canon’s PTZ cameras, cinema cameras, and ENG cameras, perfectly color-matched: different sensors and technologies that “communicate” and achieve a perfect match.
Finally, the Educational scenario is divided into two areas: in the first one, Canon aimed to provide a sort of training for using PTZ cameras to their fullest potential; in the second one, a simulated school chemistry laboratory was created to demonstrate how autotracking technology can literally “govern” the lessons.
Now, let’s briefly discuss these PTZ cameras, available in three indoor models and two outdoor models. Regarding the indoor models, the CR-N300 is the entry-level model, with a 1/2-inch sensor; the CR-N500 is the medium-level model, while the CR-N700 is the high-level camera, both with a 1-inch sensor. All models offer 4K UHD resolution, and all cameras are network-connected and feature integrated NDI licensing, thus not requiring additional licenses. All models can output in HDMI and SDI, but the CR-N700 also allows for 4K@60p (12G-SDI) output.
Additionally, Canon has also introduced two outdoor installation models: CR-X300 and CR-X500, both 4K UHD, IP65 certified with a wiper in case of rain. The CR-X500 model cannot be networked as it was designed for specific targeted projects.
Lastly, no PTZ ecosystem is complete without a reliable controller. Canon offers the RC-IP100, which allows controlling up to one hundred cameras! It is a robust and compact controller that works via IP, serial, or both. An essential detail: the RC-IP100 not only controls Canon PTZ cameras but also cameras from other families, such as broadcasting.
As a final note, Gianluca Codina from Canon Italy said: “This is the first Canon Vision event in Italy. It is an event that brings together almost all of Canon’s Imaging Solution Business offerings. With the intention of showing visitors some possible usage scenarios for our products, rather than describing their individual innovative features. This was made possible thanks to the collaboration with our Partners: Adcom, Ligra, and TAV, as well as the collaboration with some System Integrators and consultants in the Professional Video market with whom we work to meet the various requests coming from end-users.”
“We are Canon partners for the PTZ and projection field,” concluded Gianluigi Cravedi from Ligra. “The novelty lies in the integration of Canon professional solutions into Educational projects, particularly for compulsory schooling. The National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) is leading to the implementation of web radio and web TV in schools, and we propose, together with Canon, complete turnkey solutions that include a part of professional products and a part of training content.”
