Between concerns and excitement, AI is making great strides almost every day. Some fear it, others exalt it, everyone asks for more certain rules. Talking about AI means talking about a bit of everything, because it is a technology that is being applied to the most disparate fields, from the creation of texts and images to the management of complex systems.
Today we want to dedicate a nod to Humane AI Pin, the wearable artificial intelligence, strictly dedicated to man and his personal uses. Like a smartphone, in short, but without the need to hold it and operate on a screen. Inserted into small everyday objects or ornaments such as pins, buttons, glasses, Humane AI Pin will literally be carried in your pocket, will replace touch displays and will allow human-machine communication exclusively with the aid of voice.
Developed by Humane, a startup founded by former Apple employees Bethany Bongiorno and Imran Chaudhri, Humane AI Pin goes beyond the concept of wearable device, proposing itself as a “post smartphone”, a system applicable to clothes or any other surface via a very simple clip magnetic and powered by a Qualcomm processor. Inside the device, ChatGPT-4 will take care of satisfying the user’s requests. The tool will literally speak to the user, who will no longer interface with it via a display, but rather with voice or gestural commands. If necessary, a miniaturized laser projector will allow certain information to be displayed on the palm of the hand. Depth and motion sensors, combined with a 13 MP camera, will allow the device to “discover” and map the surrounding environment as well as recognize faces and objects.
In theory, Humane AI Pin should be able to write and send messages, translate between different languages, make and receive phone calls, play music, etc. In short, everything a smartphone does, but without the bulk of the smartphone!
As for security, the designers let it be known that AI Pin will not always be listening. Those who are afraid of bringing upon themselves a “monster” that will soon take over can rest easy: to use AI Pin, in fact, an old-fashioned manual activation is required. A multicolored LED will indicate that the appliance is working. Furthermore, to make the device work you will need to sign up for a $24 per month subscription which includes the ability to unlock all the features of ChatGPT-4. Already available to order on the Humane website, AI Pin is another step towards an inevitable future, dominated by AI (and the rules we will establish to control it!)
