Umbra Control is a Perugian company born and known in the security world, but today it can be defined as a true System Integrator that makes technology its mission. What does a System Integrator do? It realises complex systems starting from the idea of automation at every level (design, development, adaptation, configuration, technical training, maintenance), with all the necessary technological updates up to the end of the system or plant life cycle.
The company, which was founded in 1975 but has been led by a new management team since June 2020, has therefore undergone a real evolution in recent years, which has affected both the business and the people; a change in management and an expansion of services, which concretely translates into the new corporate identity, based on the concept of integration. President of Umbra Control today is Gianluca Ragni together with partners Mauro Marchi, Giorgio Passeri, Marta Cassini and Diliane Ercolani Barbosa. Also leading the Board of Directors, as Vice President, is Veronica Albergotti.
Umbra Control therefore offers integration solutions for systems, software and IoT projects. In the sector, the widespread need today is for adequate solutions and systems that protect the safety of people and places and guarantee management optimisation based on sustainability and facilitation of processes and flows; Umbra Control’s response is thus declined in Building Automation, BMS, Artificial Intelligence, BIM, Digital Twin, and Deep Learning projects. Fundamental tools to make a difference in the world of technological innovation, which sees its practical achievement in energy monitoring and efficiency, cost and consumption optimisation through automation and predictive analysis.
Not only in the territory. Thanks to the company’s highly technological specialisation, Umbra Control operates all over Italy and has particular experience in the field of buildings related to different sectors: the field of cultural heritage, having worked in contexts such as the Basilica of the Sacro Convento di San Francesco in Assisi, the Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo in Milan, the Rossini Museum in Pesaro and the National Archaeological Museum in Aquileia, to name but a few; but also the infrastructure sector, with plant and special solutions at various sites, from the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, to the Vitrifrigo Arena in Pesaro, from the Minimetro in Perugia to the Ferrovie dello Stato, and the ‘smart road’ sector with the realisation of monitoring works at the GRA in Rome and at Autostrade del Brennero.
Why is technology a founding value of the company?
Technology is an essential tool in every field, and for Umbra Control it is and always will be understood as a ‘facilitator’ on all levels: it makes the management of buildings and infrastructures more effective, for example; it makes security smart, i.e. intelligent and adapted to needs. But the key to innovation is one and only one: integration, with systems and solutions that are totally tailor-made and developed on the basis of need.
“The logic that we have always tried to follow with Umbra Control,” says President Gianluca Ragni, “is that of anticipation in terms of planning and dialogue in terms of contacts; in my opinion, a healthy and growing company is one that is able to understand the needs of the market before others and respond to them in a customised and distinctive manner.”
Precisely for this reason, the starting point for system design today is the end user. We start from the end, to return to the beginning: it is the approach that defines the use cases, the environments where our systems are used and the required functionalities, that is the essential prerequisite for developing novel technological solutions. Constant research and development, drawing not only from standard channels but also expanding into related worlds, not least gaming for navigable 3D platforms, where real-time systems and BIM converge for truly innovative supervision and management.
