Organized by AIC (the historic Italian association of cinematographers), the MicroSalon is a small but interesting fair, a point of reference for digital cinema… and beyond!
Even though it goes a little outside the interests of our magazine, it didn’t seem right to us not to dedicate even a mention to a “little big fair” which, in recent years, has definitely established itself in Italy: the MicroSalon. Rich in technological content, mostly dedicated to the world of cinema and photography, this fair – born and raised in Rome, in the Cinecittà area – was held this year for the first time in Milan, at the Superstudio Più in via Tortona , on 28 and 29 October. From now on, the logic should be that of alternation: one year in Rome, one year in Milan. A decision which illustrates well the desire to broaden the market and increase the exhibition possibilities that the organizers intend to offer, opening up to a reality (Milan) notoriously further away from cinema and closer to broadcast and advertising production. In fact, cinema and TV technologies are increasingly hybridised. It is now not uncommon to see cinematographic cameras in the equipment of the troupes that cover football matches and cartel sporting events. For this reason, it was interesting to see, in the stand of the Milanese company Panatronics, a RED V-Raptor XL in broadcast configuration, with Skaarhoj remote control and fiber optic signal converter, to cover long distances without loss of quality. It is impossible to draw up a list of all the big brands present at the event, directly or through their Italian distributors, but a few words about the Canon universe must be said, with the new CN-R series of full frame Cine Primes lenses with RF mount already announced at IBC. And, alongside the new Flex Zoom CN-E20-50mm and CN-E45-135mm full frame cinema lenses, there was no shortage of Canon PTZ proposals, starting with the professional CR-N700 4K model for broadcasts, TV studios and live events high-end, together with the new RC-IP1000 controller for broadcast environments and capable of managing up to 200 cameras via IP.
Milan is also and above all advertising, so the new, interesting Zinema Motion robotic arm, presented for the first time in Italy in collaboration with the aforementioned Panatronics, also deserves mention: small, light and high-performance, this arm is available in two models – Loki and Thor – and is suitable for light weight camera systems, from 3 to 6 kg.
A lot of space was dedicated by the fair to the world of lighting, with brands such as Aputure (which presented the new ElectroStorm XT26 and CS15), Nanlite, De Sisti. The response from the public was excellent, who seemed to like the idea of the Rome-Milan alternation: for a comparison between the two locations, we can only wait for the next editions!
