Perfect for installations involving d&b audiotechnik’s Soundscape platform, the new 5D amplifier expands the xD range with an ultra-compact four-channel class D DSP model.
The d&b innovations are always inscribed in broader strategies, they are never “single” products but rather elements that complete and embellish the audio ecosystems, in this case the Soundscape spatialization platform, a true masterpiece of the company. Modular and adaptable, the new 5D class D amplifier can be used both in small installations with few speakers and in larger and more articulated systems. When it comes to Soundscape, moreover, the number of speakers involved is never small, and the new 5D can make a difference especially in combination with the smaller series of d&b speakers such as the E series, the xS and xC series and, lastly, also the T series.
The goal of the German brand is to make high-quality audio systems available for an even wider range of installations. 5D, presented for the first time during ISE 2022, is a four-channel DSP amplifier with integrated audio network and flexible output power, enclosed in an ultra-compact design (1 RU x 9.5”). Its small size makes the new 5D the best choice for driving small speakers. The amplifier can be mounted under tables or ceilings, or in a rack, allowing d&b to serve a greater number of installations. In addition, 5D is the first d&b amplifier with integrated Dante network, a function that significantly increases the flexibility of the system and opens up possibilities for implementation, ensuring the user scalability and reliability. The amplifier has a dynamic range of 111 dB, and the signal processing extends the level of functionality of the built-in functions, which include a range of speaker-specific filter functions, as well as an eight-band equalizer for easy adjustment. of the system. Delay capability covers a range of up to 300ms, while the amplifier’s DSP unit has a fixed latency of 1.1ms.
Finally, one last important feature is the power sharing calculator: the 5D amplifier, in other words, can also be used to quickly and easily determine whether a simulated configuration is working within the limits of the amplifier and of the speakers. In fact, the maximum number of speakers driven by each channel varies according to their nominal impedance. To complete the functionality of the product, remote control and complete system integration are achieved using the d&b ArrayCalc simulation software and the R1 remote control software. The 5D amplifier includes two Ethernet ports (1 Gbit/100 Mbit) on RJ 45 connectors with Dante audio streaming and OCA/AES70 protocol.
