New speakers—redesigned, built with attention and to be more powerful; all designed for lowering impedances and reducing distortions. Let’s discover them in detail.
Sica and Jensen made their participation at Prolight + Sound Frankfurt known by presenting themselves with important new releases. While visiting their stand to get a deeper understanding, we took note of a new series of Sica speakers in 18”, 15” and 12”—three devices designed with a new border, sturdier case and a new suspension that restores greater control. Each speaker presents the membrane cone with both external and internal treatment, in addition to a complete renewal of the magnetic circuit (whose creation lent particular attention to the cooling of the mobile coil).
The Studio Monitor selection was also completed with the introduction of the 8” and 6.5”, for which particular attention was paid by Sica to the reduction of distortions and the use of membranes. Specifically, a copper dome was used on the central cone of the magnet in order to lower impedances and reduce distortions.
Jensen Tornado Stealth and Hornet
Then from Sica to Jensen (the passage was short), in order to get to know Jensen Tornado Stealth up close: a new line of speakers for guitars presented for the first time in Europe. 
They are characterized by neodymium magnets and therefore have about half the weight of a traditional ceramic speaker.
There are three models in the new array:
- TR65, a model with typically English rock blues voicing.
- TR80, a speaker with a more modern choice of timbre.
- TR100, which returns to Jensen’s origins and presents a much more American voicing.
The line was designed following the latest trends that see the market progressively shift toward very light, compact and easily transportable amplifiers and speakers for guitars—an evolution that sees weight become a very important distinguishing factor. From the lively voice of Ignazio Vagnone, here are some technical design details for the new line: “Removing a traditional ceramic magnet and inserting a neodymium one changes the sound of the speaker, and thus we redesigned the neodymium so that it behaves like “old school” magnets—those from Jensen’s first generation, made of alnico (aluminium, nickel and cobalt).”
Hornet
From the three products of the Tornado Stealth line we move to Hornet, a new speaker that is the fruit of a detailed study with which Jensen intends to re-propose the typical sonorities of one of the most famous speakers in the history of American amplification—at the time used as a luxury replacement to improve the timbre of the ‘70s and ‘80s. It was purposely designed to bring back that type of sound experience but in a more accessible format for today’s musician.
